The Supreme Courtroom on Monday declined to intrude with the Centre’s resolution to cancel the College Grants Fee-Nationwide Eligibility Check (UGC-NET) 2024 as a result of alleged paper leaks, saying it could add to “uncertainty” and “utter chaos.”
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra famous that the examination is to be performed afresh on August 21.
“The examination was held on June 18 and cancelled on June 19. The examination is now scheduled for August 21, and the plea challenges the cancellation of the examination. Now, two months have elapsed. Entertaining the plea at this stage would solely add to uncertainty and utter chaos,” stated the bench.
The bench additional acknowledged that 9 lakh candidates will seem for the examination on August 21 and that, at this late stage, cancellation can’t be challenged.
The highest court docket stated that college students showing for the examination will need to have some type of “certainty now.”
It added that the Central authorities should be “doubly cautious after the NEET-UG fiasco,” and thus the cancellation was warranted. “Let this course of go on now,” it stated.

On June 19, the Centre cancelled the College Grants Fee-Nationwide Eligibility Check (UGC-NET) following an alleged query paper leak and referred the matter to the CBI for investigation.
Earlier, the highest court docket had dismissed a PIL filed by a lawyer in search of a direct keep on the re-examination of the UGC-NET examination till the CBI completes its inquiry into the paper leak allegations.
The UGC-NET examination determines the eligibility of candidates to pursue analysis alternatives, together with Junior Analysis Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Analysis Fellowship (SRF).
