Mamata Banerjee Writes Again To PM On Rape Cases

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the brutal rape and homicide of a post-graduate trainee physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Faculty and Hospital.

The Bengal Chief Minister expressed disappointment on the lack of a direct response from the Prime Minister to her earlier letter, dated August 22. As an alternative, she acquired a generic reply from the Union Ministry of Girls and Baby Growth, which she deemed insufficient given the gravity of the problem.

In her August 22 letter to the Prime Minister, Ms Banerjee claimed that 90 rape instances happen each day all through the nation.

In response to the letter, Annapurna Devi, Union Minister for Girls and Baby Growth, wrote that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, carried out final month, “comprehensively addresses the problems of crimes towards girls by offering stringent punishments”.
